Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Airbrush Seminar

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics also known as OCC, is an all vegan brand that is known for their amazing long lasting pigmented Liptars, a perfect blend of lipstick and gloss. OCC has done it again, and is now making a statement in the industry with their water based airbrushing formula.

I was lucky enough to be part of Maxine’s Vanity Girl Squad and attend the OCC Airbrush Seminar at Nigels Beauty Emporium in North Hollywood, California.

The Emporium boasts sixty combined years of experience in the beauty industry, priding us with an unsurpassed knowledge base and customer service. Many of Hollywood’s famous faces can be seen in the store on regular basis, enjoying their shopping spree undisturbed by their surroundings. Whether it is a local or international movie set and TV location, Nigel’s supplies their make up artists and hair stylists with all their professional needs.

This was my first time attending a seminar on airbrushing, so I had no idea what to expect. OCC had Celebrity Makeup Artist and Hairstylist Valerie Hernandez lead the class. Of course like any other class she shared a little background information about herself in the industry and we all got to introduce ourselves. After, Valerie shared a little information on the founder, David Klasfeld.

“While studying film at Purchase College, David’s career in makeup began with what was supposed to be a part-time job in a Nordstrom’s cosmetics department. After putting in his time behind the counter, he soon found himself backstage working on runway shows including Patricia Field, Heatherette and Diesel.

Since then, his work has been seen in print for Zink, Interview, Time Out New York and New York Magazine, and for advertising clients including NBC, Target, Best Buy, and General Electric. David lives and works in New York, and is the Founder and Creative Director of his professional makeup range, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.”

What was really cool about this seminar was that not only did we learn about the product, but we also got to dig in a little about the history of airbrushing. We then learned about the basics like what PSI stood for and what levels it should be set at. We learned about a double action gun, which Valerie recommends, if you want more control. OCC uses the Sparmax Pro Portable Compressor and I couldn’t believe how small it was! Not only was it tiny, but it also barely made any noise. After Valerie went over all the hardware of airbrushing, she then showed us how she personally cleans her gun while changing through different products, and how she deep cleans it after ever use. We then to a short break, and when we came back, we got to watch her do a demonstration. Valerie first started the demonstration by showing us her recommended order of prepping the skin. She informed us that like applying foundation, it first starts with proper skincare. Then we got to see her work her magic. It was great being able to see in person how the product works and how a professional artist airbrushes. When she was done, we were all able to do a quick learning exercise, which taught us how to use the gun properly.

Overall I thought this seminar was very useful, especially because I walked into this knowing nothing about airbrushing. I have learned to really love this technique. I love that when done correctly it can make your skin look flawless, its long lasting, and its fast and easy! I would totally recommend this seminar for anyone who is thinking about getting into airbrushing or just simply wants to learn and hear tips and tricks from a professional artist. It’s also a great way to build your kit. For example, this class was $50. Most seminars and workshops allow you to use the money you paid for the class, towards products at the end. In this case Maxine, used the $50 to put towards liptars for her Vanity Girl makeup kit. Ever sense then, Vanity Girl has been able to do a Pout Bar at Pop up Vanity Bars.
